WASHINGTON – Leading Republicans are joining a push to reconsider the constitutional amendment that grants automatic citizenship to people born in the United States.

Things are getting more and more interesting here in the US. People who are against immigration reform, now are going after birthright citizenship. The Republican party doesn't like the way the game is going
(currently, not in their favor) -- so they now want change the rules of the
game, to make sure they win.
The Republican party is losing it's base of support. Further, the current anti-immigrant rhetoric of the Republican party is not going to help the party recruit the growing Latino population to vote for them at the polls. As we know, the Latino population is growing exponentially. See link. In fact, according to US census documents, Hispanics are projected to become 24.4 % of the population.
So, rather than reverse the anti-immigrant rhetoric and perhaps embrace immigration reform, the GOP has decided to take a different tactic. Render the Latinos unimportant, insignificant and irrelevant to the democratic process in this country. By taking birthright citizenship, the GOP hopes do decrease the number of voting Latinos in the future. Quick history lesson, at one time in this country, African Americans voted with the Republican Party because they were the party of Abraham Lincoln. Remember the Emancipation Proclamation -- it freed the slaves. As a result, former slaves voted Republican. See the link.
If the Republicans get their way, children who are born here to undocumented parents (or parents who are not citizens) won't become US citizens -- AND won't have the right to vote. Particularly, won't have the right to vote AGAINST the GOP who appears to not like Latinos (or ANY immigrants for that matter).

Citizens -- this attack is focused on Latinos and immigrants today, but could be used against any of us in the future if we get in the Republican Party's way.
