A Texas hospital is under fire for allegedly telling a surgical patient she had to leave the hospital immediately because she was an illegal immigrant.

Here is another example of where the need for health care reform and immigration reform meet.
The US government passed health care reform -- what it will look like we all don't know yet. I hope that it be an improvement for all and have some unexpected surprises (good ones). Surely health care reform will likely also have some unintended consequences (bad results).
Those of us who have been following immigration reform optimistically -- we are still waiting, hoping for action. Any action. I am also hoping for improvement and some unexpected surprises (good ones) where this legislation is concerned. I can almost certainly guarantee that immigration reform will also have some unintended consequences too.
In any case, I really like the quote from Arthur Caplan, Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania.
"[Y]ou should care for people in your neighborhood, in your area, and ultimately in your nation first," he said. "… And they have to come ahead of people that are in the country illegally."
